Yep, that's a homemade scarf. Beat that, philanthropists!

Maybe you plunked down $20 dollars at some Haiti benefit concert. More likely you said you would and never did. Well, slackers, Sophie Drukman-Feldstein hit the sidewalk in front of her Cole Valley house Thursday afternoon, sacrificing her spring break to put you to shame.

Yes, those potholders, bracelets, and scarf are the product of hours of child labor, namely from 12-year-old Sophie herself. And this is not her first sale: She claims to have had four, yes, four bake sales before today's “art and craft” sale. The first two sales netted $95.16. (notice the precision and transparency of her reported profits), and she hasn't yet gotten around to counting the proceeds from the second two.

That's probably because she was too busy knitting the scarf (three days of child labor) and weaving the potholders. Her asking prices were ambitious: $15 for the scarf, $10 for the potholders, $10 for the “complicated” bracelets, $5 for the simpler ones, and $1 for the greeting cards. A Cole Valley girl to the core.
