The new dietary guidelines are here and vegans are very into them. No, cupcakes are not at the bottom of the food pyramid (I wish!), but the new guidelines demystify a plant-based diet, showing that it can help prevent diabetes and increase longevity.
[jump] Also, not to be all braggy about it, but vegan diets may also lower heart disease risk in children … which is nice.
New Zealand is the latest country taking some heat for animal testing. While I'm sure guinea pigs and rabbits look adorable in makeup (I know mine do in Photoshop), let's leave them to their natural beauty, the kind that doesn't involve any pain or suffering.
Vegan leather: It gets hotter and hotter every week. At this rate I may actually consider buying myself a pair of vegan leather pants and embarrassing everyone I know by trying to recapture my lost youth.
Miss salmon? Now there's a vegan option. I cant't believe the times we are living in! What next? Flying cars? The return of vegan tuna?
Secret tip for anyone in S.F. (all of you): I went to Absinthe for Valentine's Day dinner and while the restaurant does serve foie gras — lame — the chef will also make an “off the menu” vegan platter upon request. Not only is it healthy as shit, but it's also delicious. Trust me, I wasn't down when I heard quinoa, but I was hoping for seconds after.
